DCP dicumy peroxide is used as a high temperature crosslinker in rubber and plastics applications. Compounds containing DCP are processed at temperatures up to 250°F (121°C) and can be cured at temperatures above 300°F (149°C). DCP can be used also in the polymerization of expandable polystyrene as finisher and as synergist for fire retardant EPS applications.

Dicumy Peroxide DCP (Diisopropyl Benzene Peroxide) is an important chemical with a wide range of applications, especially in the rubber and plastics industries. The following are the main applications of DCP:
*Crosslinking Effect: DCP is commonly used as a crosslinking agent for rubber such as nitrile rubber and neoprene rubber. During rubber processing, DCP can trigger the cross-linking reaction between rubber molecular chains to form a three-dimensional network structure, thus improving the strength, abrasion resistance, aging resistance and other properties of rubber products.
* Performance Enhancement: the physical and mechanical properties, heat resistance, solvent resistance, etc. of rubber products cross-linked by DCP can be significantly improved.
*Polyethylene Modification: DCP also plays an important role in the modification process of polyethylene (PE). Through the cross-linking effect of DCP, the heat resistance, weather resistance, mechanical strength and other properties of PE can be improved, making it more suitable for high temperature, high pressure and other harsh environments.
*Composite Preparation: In the preparation of PE/rubber powder composites, the addition of DCP can effectively improve the tensile strength and elongation at break of the composites. However, when the content of DCP increases to a certain degree, the elongation at break may decrease, but the permanent deformation will decrease.
*Cable Insulation: DCP is also often used as a cross-linking agent in the insulation of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables. By adjusting the content of DCP, the degree of cross-linking of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) can be controlled, which in turn affects its DC properties, such as space charge distribution, electrical conductivity and breakdown strength.
*Other Fields: DCP is also used in the preparation of thermoplastic elastomers, wood/plastic composites, etc., to improve the properties of the materials through its cross-linking effect.
Safety: DCP is a low-toxicity substance, but it is still necessary to pay attention to safety protection during use and avoid direct contact with skin and eyes.
