Benzalkonium Chloride (abbreviated as BK/BAC), also named alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride, belongs to quaternary ammonium compound (QAC) family. It is a high-performance cationic surfactant and broad-spectrum non-oxidative biocide, widely recognised globally for reliable antimicrobial performance.
Chemically, BKC is a mixture of alkylbenzyldimethylammonium chlorides. It can electrostatically attach to negatively charged microbial cell membranes, disrupt lipid structures and trigger cell lysis.
