SINOBIO
200-838-9
CAS No.: 75-09-2
Chemical Formula: CH₂Cl₂
Molecular Weight: 84.93 g/mol
EINECS: 203-572-1
Type: Synthesis Material Intermediates
Appearance: Liquid
Quality: Industrial
Appearance and Odor: Colorless, transparent liquid with a slightly pungent odor similar to ethers (some describe it as having a sweet, chloroform-like odor)
Physical State: Liquid at room temperature, highly volatile, vapor density is 2.93 times that of air
Solubility: Slightly soluble in water (solubility approximately 1.32 g/100 mL at 20℃), readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and benzene.
Used as a solvent in the resin and plastic industries. Widely used in industries such as medicine, plastics, and film.
Dichloromethane has the advantages of strong dissolving capacity and low toxicity, and is widely used in the manufacture of safety film, polycarbonate, and the remainder is used as coating solvent, metal degreasing agent, aerosol propellant, polyurethane foaming agent, release agent, paint remover.

Dichloromethane/Methylene Chloride Usage
* Used in paint strippers, coating removers, metal cleaners, and degreasers.
* As a solvent for plastics, rubber, and fibers, and an extractant in the pharmaceutical industry.
* Used as a blowing agent in polyurethane foam to improve foam structure.
* As a propellant in aerosol products (such as hairspray and insecticides).
* Used in experimental operations such as organic synthesis, extraction, and chromatographic analysis.
Dichloromethane, also known as Methylene Chloride, is an organic compound with the chemical formula CH₂Cl₂. This colourless, transparent liquid has an irritating ether-like odour and is slightly soluble in water, but soluble in ethanol and ether. Due to its high solvency and low toxicity, it has a wide range of applications in several fields, including:
(1) Organic synthesis: commonly used in organic synthesis as a solvent or reaction medium, such as the preparation of benzylpenicillin, vanguardomycin and so on.
(2) Pharmaceuticals, pesticides, solvents: as an important chemical raw material, widely used in the production of pharmaceuticals, pesticides and solvents.
(3) Refrigeration: It is also used in the refrigeration process of grain fumigation and low-pressure freezers and air-conditioning units.
(4) Plastics industry: used in the production of polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane and other plastic products.
(5) Electronic industry: used in the production of electronic components, circuit boards, etc., commonly used as a cleaning and degreasing agent.
(6) Textile industry: used in the production of chlorinated polypropylene fibres.
(7) Environmental protection industry: used to treat wastewater, waste gas and other pollutants.
(8) Construction materials: used in the production of PVC construction materials, such as pipes, doors and windows.
(1) Dentistry: used as local anaesthetics, freezing agents.
(2) Fire extinguishing: In some cases, it can be used as fire extinguishing agent, especially for cleaning degreasing and film removing agent of paint layer on metal surface.
(3) Coatings and paints: Although methylene chloride itself is not used directly in coatings and paints, it may be used as a solvent or treatment agent in the manufacture of these products.
(4) Personal care: Silicones (although not identical to methylene chloride, they have similar chemical properties and applications) play an important role in personal care products, e.g., providing a soft, luxurious texture and longer lasting protection.
