Butyltin Trichloride Application:


1. Glass Industry

MBTC is used as a reinforcing agent in glass manufacturing, improving the strength and durability of glass by forming a protective tin oxide layer. It is widely used in the production of flat glass and container glass.


*Enhanced Durability: In the production of glass containers (such as beer bottles, wine bottles, and juice bottles), MBTC is sprayed onto the glass surface and then treated at high temperatures to form a dense tin oxide layer, effectively preventing cracking caused by mechanical stress during high-temperature forming or use, thus extending product life.


*Improved Thermal Stability: During the glass melting stage, MBTC, as an additive, can regulate the crystallization behavior of the glass, reduce differences in the coefficient of thermal expansion, and prevent cracking caused by sudden temperature changes, making it particularly suitable for food packaging glass that needs to withstand high-temperature sterilization.


*Optimized Processing Efficiency: During the glass forming process, the MBTC coating can reduce the coefficient of friction between the glass and the mold, reduce adhesion, and increase production speed and yield.


2. PVC Stabilizer Intermediate

MBTC is a key raw material for synthesizing PVC heat stabilizers. It inhibits the thermal degradation of PVC during processing and use by introducing tin:


* Inhibits dehydrochlorination: PVC easily decomposes at high temperatures to produce hydrogen chloride (HCl). The tin atoms in MBTC can capture HCl, forming stable tin chlorides, thus slowing down the degradation process.


* Improves processing performance: MBTC-derived stabilizers can improve the fluidity of PVC melt, reduce melt fracture, and are suitable for extrusion, injection molding, and other molding processes.


3. Organic Synthesis Catalyst

MBTC acts as a highly efficient catalyst in organic synthesis, promoting specific reactions:


* Esterification: In the synthesis of antioxidant 618, MBTC catalyzes ester bond formation by adjusting the molar ratio of pentaerythritol to triethyl phosphite. Under optimal process conditions, the catalyst addition amount is 4% of the mass of pentaerythritol.


* Polymerization: In the synthesis of polyurethane, polyester, and other polymer materials, MBTC can catalyze monomer ring-opening or chain growth, optimizing molecular weight distribution.
