Isopropyl myristate is a colorless to light yellow thin oily liquid, odorless and tasteless. Soluble in ethanol, ether, and chlorofor. Can dissolve with water. It has good lubrication and permeability, can improve skin affinity, and is a lower alcohol ester of higher fatty acids.
Isopropyl myristate has a low greasy feeling, a softening effect on the skin, and good permeability. It is a solvent and retention agent for pigments, spices, and various additives. Low melting point, stable and not easily hydrolyzed, the color and odor can meet the requirements of cosmetics, making it an excellent ester raw material commonly used in cosmetics.
Isopropyl myristate may be synthesized by conventional esterification of is0propanol with myristic acid. Isopropyl myristate is an ester of is0propyl alc0hol myristic acid.
