Application: Methylene Dithiocyanate emulsion is used as bactericide. Fungicide and an antibacterial agent.
Methylene dithiocyanate is a member of the class of thiocyanates that is methan in which two of the hycrogens have been replaced by thiocyanato groups. Used as a biocide for the control of various pathogens and algae in industrial water systems and as a fungicide for the control of surface moulds and sapstain fungi on wood. It has a role as a fungicide and an antibacterial agent.

Water Solubility | Decomposes in water. Slightly soluble in organic solvents. |
Stability: | Stable, but moisture sensitive. Reacts vigorously with strong bases, strong oxidizing agents. Reacts with water. |
1. Algaecide: Dithiocyanomethane is a kind of high efficient, broad-spectrum bactericide and algaecide. It can effectively kill bacteria, fungi and algae when maintained at a certain concentration (e.g. 0.3mg/L) in circulating water. It is especially suitable for industrial circulating water treatment, swimming pool water sterilisation and disinfection, as well as reducing oil contamination, preventing clay expansion and sterilising and anti-scaling in oil fields.
2. Agricultural applications: In agriculture, dithiocyanomethane is mainly used to treat crop seeds to prevent and control seed-borne diseases. For example, it has high efficacy against rice malignant seedling and dry tip nematode diseases, barley stripe disease, firm black spangles and web blotch. At the same time, it can also improve the germination rate and seedling formation rate of rice seeds.
3. Industrial antiseptic: Dithiocyanomethane can be used as antiseptic and fungicide in wood, leather and rubber products. In addition, it protects paints, adhesives, polymer lattices and emulsions.
4. Aquaculture: In fish farming, Dithiocyanomethane can be used to prevent and control fish water mould disease, and it is an effective poisonous and bactericidal agent.
5. Other applications: Dithiocyanomethane is also used for sludge control in the pulp and paper industry, as well as the treatment of oil well brine and drilling mud.
